January 8: That’s No Moon – Sphere in Las Vegas is Transformed into a LEGO Star Wars Death Star

Sphere in Las Vegas is Transformed into a LEGO Star Wars Death Star

A great disturbance has been felt in Las Vegas, but there is no need for alarm! In a galactic first, the LEGO Group, in collaboration with Disney Consumer Products, Lucasfilm, and Sphere Studios, lit up Las Vegas’s skyline with a first-of-its-kind interactive game experience outside Sphere.

Executed in honor of the launch of the new LEGO SMART Play platform, which debuts with three ‘All-In-One’ LEGO Star Wars building sets, the exterior of Sphere was transformed into a brick-built Death Star in a stunning recreation of the iconic trench run scene from Star Wars: A New Hope.

The experience brought the interactive nature of LEGO SMART Play to life on a larger-than-life scale, and invited guests were able to step into the adventure themselves.

Taking a seat in a LEGO Star Wars-inspired X-wing, guests were able to experience the thrill of “blowing up” the LEGO Star Wars Death Star on the incredible 366-foot-tall screen through an interactive trench run-inspired gaming experience.

To help launch the experience into hyperspace, Jaxson Dart, quarterback for the New York Giants, stepped into the cockpit and took on the mission of destroying the LEGO Star Wars Death Star, bringing his competitive energy to the SMART Play-enabled LEGO Star Wars experience.

Brick builders and fans alike can now experience a galaxy far, far away like never before with the new LEGO SMART Play building sets.

All three ‘All-In-One’ LEGO Star Wars building sets, including the LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Luke’s Red Five X-Wing, the LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter, and the LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Throne Room Duel & A-Wing will launch on March 1, 2026, on DisneyStore.com and in select markets, and will be available for preorder starting January 9.

January 5: Introducing the New LEGO SMART Play Platform Featuring LEGO Star Wars

New LEGO SMART Play Platform Featuring LEGO Star Wars

The joy of LEGO brick building continues past the construction phase with the new LEGO SMART Play platform, a new play innovation that allows brick builders to bring their LEGO creations to life like never before.

Announced today at the Consumer Electronics Show, the new LEGO SMART Play platform is one the most significant innovations in the LEGO System-in-Play since the introduction of the LEGO Minifigure in 1978.

New LEGO SMART Play Platform Featuring LEGO Star Wars

Comprised of three platform elements – the LEGO SMART Brick, LEGO SMART Tags, and LEGO SMART Minifigures – the LEGO SMART Play system allows brick-built creations to react in real time, bringing an interactive play experience to LEGO fans of all ages.

At the heart of this innovative new system? The LEGO SMART Brick. Powered by a custom-made chip that is smaller than a standard LEGO stud, this small but mighty brick is packed with technologies that bring play to life, allowing paired LEGO SMART Tags and LEGO SMART Minifigures to become interactive and responsive.

And the (LEGO) pièce de résistance? The first LEGO SMART Play-enabled sets will be part of the LEGO Star Wars line.

Now, for the first time, a galaxy far, far away will play back with three ‘All-In-One’ LEGO Star Wars building sets: the LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Luke’s Red Five X-Wing, the LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter and the LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Throne Room Duel & A-Wing.

For the first time in the history of LEGO Star Wars, fans and brick builders can bring the iconic sounds of Star Wars to life with fun SMART features that fans can unlock. This includes Lightsaber hums with the SMART Minifigures of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, the engine roar of the A-wing, and even “The Imperial March” theme music with Emperor Palpatine sitting on his throne.

All three ‘All-In-One’ LEGO Star Wars sets will come with a LEGO SMART Brick with charger and at least one LEGO SMART Minifigure and LEGO SMART tag.

The new sets will launch on March 1, 2026, on DisneyStore.com and in select markets.
